is muskmelon good for diabetes

There is no such direct study or research conducted on muskmelon for diabetes, but we can conclude this by seeing only the glycemic index.

This won’t be as authentic as any study if conducted on this issue, but several sources say that a diabetic patient can eat muskmelon but in a limited amount.

A diabetic patient should add this fruit very cautiously.

Let’s find out, “Is muskmelon good for diabetes?”

If we look into the nutritional value of muskmelon, you’ll find this…

Nutritional Value Of Muskmelon:

Muskmelon provides 34 calories per 100-gram serving. It is rich in the nutritional source, about 20 percent or more of the daily value of Vitamin A and Vitamin C, about 61 percent of the daily value.

The Daily Values are reference amounts (expressed in grams, milligrams, or micrograms) of nutrients to consume or not to exceed each day. The %DV shows how much a nutrient in a serving of food contributes to a total daily diet.

The %DV helps you determine if a serving of food is high or low in a nutrient.

Muskmelon has a little or negligible level of nutrients other than the mentioned above.

Melons usually have 90% water and 9% carbohydrates. And with less than 1 percent each of protein and fats.

Glycemic Index Of Muskmelon:

The glycemic index of muskmelon is about 65, and the glycemic load is about 3.14.

Muskmelon provides 5.6 grams of carbohydrates from 150 grams of chopped muskmelon. But due to the low glycemic load, the blood glucose level will rise slowly.

However, one source also said that muskmelon fruit is categorized under the medium glycemic index fruit.

With 150 gram or 1 cup portion size serving is totally safe for every lifestyle disease.

Is Muskmelon Good For Diabetes?

We can’t say whether muskmelon for a diabetic patient is good or bad because there is no research that has been conducted on this issue.

But by seeing only the glycemic index and glycemic load, we can say that a diabetic person can eat muskmelon.

But here another question arises: How much a diabetic patient should eat muskmelon?

And we don’t know the answer either. For the proper amount to eat, you have to consult your physician.

The amount will depend on your blood glucose level. Some people might eat a low amount if their blood glucose level is increased.

In the same way, if you have normal blood glucose levels, you can eat a little more amount, but how much? Your physician will tell you that.

Other Benefits Of Muskmelon:

  • Muskmelon is rich in potassium. Potassium is good at regulating blood pressure.
  • Vitamin A is useful in better vision, better immunity.
  • Vitamin C maintains healthy skin, healthy blood vessels and bones, and cartilage, etc.

Bottom line:

We have discussed all the aspects of the question “Is muskmelon is good for diabetes?”

We have seen the glycemic index and glycemic load of muskmelon, indicating that a diabetic person can eat diabetes.

But how much amount is going to affect the person can be clarified only by your physician.

Due to a lack of evidence and research, it is not clear that muskmelon is suitable for diabetes patients.

Though it has lots of nutrition like vitamin A and C, it might help a person for a healthy lifestyle.

For better understanding, consult your physician.
